Assuming Ethereum supports $1 trillion in stablecoins and RWA in the future, the vast majority of transactions are completed on L2s, with fees so low they are almost negligible. The value captured by ETH holders has not increased significantly, so there is actually a bridge missing between the "huge ecosystem scale" and "ETH should be more expensive."
SOL happens to be taking a different path.
Solana keeps execution and settlement on the same network as much as possible, so meme booms on the chain, increased stablecoin transfers, and increased DEX trading volume, making the relationship between SOL and network activity easier to understand. Ethereum is increasingly like a wholesale settlement layer: ordinary users play at the upper layer, while the bottom layer handles security and final settlement.
Whether this route can win, I think there is still no answer at this point.
If L2 scales up dozens of times in the future, even if each settlement contributes little to Ethereum, the total volume could still be considerable; Combined with ETH's demand as collateral, collateral, and underlying security assets, it could form another value model. But if L2s grow stronger and ultimately keep users, fees, and even liquidity in their own hands, Ethereum will face a very awkward outcome: road builders bear the heaviest security responsibility, while the real profits come from service areas on highways.

If you think of $ETH PeerDAS as just a "fee reduction upgrade," you miss the most interesting part: Ethereum is redesigning how data is distributed and temporarily stored. Rollups submit transaction results to mainnet, and must ensure that the relevant data was once publicly available; If every node downloads all the data, the increased capacity raises bandwidth and disk requirements, and ultimately, only large data centers can run nodes. Between scaling and decentralization, there is a real storage bill.
After Fusaka went live, PeerDAS allowed nodes to sample and verify blob data, no longer requiring each machine to store every complete blob. Data was encoded, split into separate columns, and distributed to the network; ordinary nodes only kept part of it, but could use cryptographic commitments to determine whether the entire data was usable. This design is somewhat like distributed warehousing: each warehouse does not need to store all goods; the system still needs to prove that all goods exist and can be rebuilt.
It forms an interesting contrast with the businesses of physical storage companies like SanDisk. $SNDK pursues higher density, lower power consumption, and faster interfaces, allowing more data to be stored on servers; Ethereum aims to allow validators to download less data without sacrificing network security. One solves how much each chip can install, the other solves how much each participant must bear. AI and blockchain are both explosively generating data, just paying differently.
A blob has another commonly misunderstood feature: it is not a permanent archive. Ethereum's official documentation states that this type of data is retained for about 18 days, after which it can be cleaned by nodes, and the on-chain commitment for verification is still retained. For Rollups, this period is enough for participants to rebuild their state and challenge themselves; For applications that require years of history queries, other archiving services must also be relied upon. Data availability and permanent storage are two different products; they cannot be confused just because they are called "data."
This creates a new division of industry labor. The mainnet sells security and short-term data availability, Rollups handle execution, and archiving services, indexers, and decentralized storage networks handle long-term history. Users see cheaper transactions, but the backend adds multiple layers of vendors. Division of labor improves efficiency but also increases dependencies: when a service layer is interrupted, applications must know how to recover from other sources.
The advantage of PeerDAS is that theoretical blob capacity can be greatly increased, while the bandwidth burden per node does not increase year-on-year. The Ethereum Foundation disclosed that ordinary nodes default to only receiving some data columns and recover through redundant encoding; Capacity increases are gradually released through parameter upgrades, rather than maxing out on day one. Although incremental scaling is not thrilling enough, it allows clients and networks to detect problems under real load.
Risk comes from complexity. Previously, "all nodes get all the data" was easy to understand, but sampling, subnetting, erasure codes, and supernodes introduced more engineering steps. Probability assurance must be implemented correctly; client errors or uneven data distribution can affect recovery. The more sophisticated the protocol relies on cryptography and network design, the more important testing, client diversity, and monitoring become.
Value capture is also worth cautious. Increasing blob capacity often means lower per-transaction costs on Layer 2, which benefits user and Rollup growth, but does not guarantee an immediate rise in ETH fees. If supply expands faster than demand, data space becomes cheaper; Only when transaction activity grows significantly with low prices can total network demand offset the drop in unit prices. BTC的价值逻辑非常直接。机构想配置Bitcoin,就得买BTC。SOL的链上活动和SOL之间也比较容易建立联系,交易、质押、DeFi都围绕同一套网络运行。但Ethereum正在越来越像金融世界的后台:前面跑的是USDC、RWA、Base、Arbitrum,真正的ETH藏在最下面负责安全和结算。
如果这条路线最后跑通,ETH的天花板其实很高。
因为华尔街真正需要的可能根本不是另一家更快的互联网公司,而是一套足够安全、足够中立、可以让几千亿美元甚至更多资产长期结算的基础设施。普通用户不需要知道Ethereum是什么,就像刷Visa的时候没人研究后面的清算网络。只要资产不断沉淀,ETH作为质押、安全和结算资产的需求就可能慢慢积累。
但反过来,如果RWA增长十倍,稳定币增长十倍,Layer2交易增长十倍,ETH自己的费用、销毁和需求却没有同步增长,那市场迟早会问一个非常现实的问题:Ethereum成功了,为什么ETH一定要跟着成功?
所以我现在已经不太喜欢用“ETH生态最大”证明它被低估。
真正值得看的,是生态每增加100亿美元资产,ETH到底捕获了多少价值;Layer2每增加一亿笔交易,Ethereum主网到底赚到了什么;华尔街每搬一批资产上链,是单纯借用了Ethereum的安全,还是同时制造了新的ETH需求。
上一轮ETH需要证明的是:Ethereum有没有人用。
现在这个问题已经没那么难回答了。
