The September FOMC minutes sounded tough, with most officials still leaving the door open to another hike this year. Rates are now at 3.75%–4.00%, but the key point is that an October hike is far from guaranteed.
The bigger issue is the data: September payrolls added only 29K jobs, while unemployment rose to 4.2%. That makes aggressive tightening harder to justify.
