On October 7, Trump said something heavy at a rally in Texas: reaching an agreement with Iran "is not really what I want." NBC and Axios simultaneously revealed that his national security team is discussing resuming large-scale military operations in the coming weeks, possibly including "massive bombings" of Iran's energy, infrastructure, and nuclear facilities.
On one hand, he says the envoy's "progress is very smooth," on the other, he says "he doesn't want an agreement." This contradiction is either a negotiation tactic or a real preparation to take action.
Kpler data shows that, excluding Iran, crude oil exports through the Gulf region have recovered to about 18.5 million barrels per day, close to pre-war levels. Kpler's chief analyst Matt Wright said a key sentence: "Normalization no longer needs to wait for an agreement."
But oil prices did not fall. Brent crude instead rose to $102 per barrel, and WTI approached $90.
Supply has returned, but prices have not. Because the market is not buying today's supply, but the uncertainty of a possible war next week.
Bitcoin fell below $83,000, hitting a monthly low. The direct trigger was the 10-year US Treasury yield soaring to 5.36%, the highest since 2002, combined with the Fed's September meeting minutes leaning hawkish.
It's not that Bitcoin isn't strong enough, it's that "money" has become more expensive.
JPMorgan previously pointed out that since the outbreak of the Iran conflict, Bitcoin has been the main vehicle for "devaluation trades." But after the Fed rate hike on September 16, BTC rose from 75,600 to 85,500 — geopolitical risk premiums are indeed rising.
The problem is: this time it's different. Interest rates are rising, liquidity is tightening. The bulls of devaluation trades are being suppressed by the bulls of interest rates.
Iran is collecting Strait of Hormuz passage fees using cryptocurrency.
$1 per barrel, free for empty ships. Under sanctions, crypto assets are not easily seized or frozen.
Iran's crypto ecosystem has reached about $7.8 billion in scale.
This is not symbolic. When a fully sanctioned country uses cryptocurrency as the toll tool for the world's most important oil passage, this is writing a real combat case for cryptocurrency.
What to watch this week
① Daily passage volume of the Strait of Hormuz — currently about 4.8 million barrels, far below the pre-conflict approximately 20 million barrels. Continued decline in passage volume = oil prices remain high = continued interest rate pressure.
② Whether Trump really ordered the resumption of military operations — if it's just tough talk, the market will digest it; if he really takes action, oil prices may directly break through $110.
③ Whether oil prices can hold above $100 — Brent has already stood above, the key is whether it can hold.
You think Bitcoin is "digital gold," but the market is still pricing it as a "risk asset."
Iran is collecting oil passage fees with cryptocurrency — this is the most ironic and real adoption case in the crypto world.
The impact of geopolitical conflicts on Bitcoin does not depend on the conflict itself, but on whether it disrupts global oil prices and monetary policy. This time, both are being disrupted.
