The top 20 weighted stocks in the $SPX makes up for 50% of the weighting in the index. These are the highest of high quality publicly traded names in the United States. In order for the index to get that eventual 10% correction, we need a good majority of these names to start falling, like really fall. Not just a few. Take $AAPL for instance, second highest weight at near 7%. It’s down 12% peak to trough recently and $GOOGL / $GOOG with a 6% weight, down 8% peak to trough recently, yet the $SPX is right at ATH’s (thx MSFT/AMZN for softening their blows).
