OpenAI has cut prices again.
GPT-5.6 Luna is directly discounted by 80%, and GPT-5.6 Terra is also down 20%.
I said a few days ago that I have always believed large language models will eventually become cheaper, and the real competition is not about model capability, but about price.
Because the model itself is difficult to build a long-term moat.
Today OpenAI lowers, tomorrow Anthropic follows, and the day after Google follows. In the end, the competition isn't about who has more model parameters, but who can provide the same capabilities at a lower cost.
In the internet era, browsers, search, and email have almost all become free, because what truly makes money isn't the products themselves, but the business models behind them.
I believe AI will follow a similar path.
Models will increasingly become foundational capabilities; what truly determines a company's value is no longer the model, but its ecosystem, entry points, enterprise customers, and the ability to continuously reduce inference costs.
That's why I've always felt that relying solely on selling models is becoming increasingly difficult.
The price war has only just begun; the real competition is just getting started.
